Vishnu turns sides during sleep.
Parsva Ekadashi, also called Parivartini Ekadashi, falls in the middle of Chaturmas, the four months when Lord Vishnu rests in cosmic sleep. On this day he is said to turn over onto his other side, which is what "Parivartini" means, "the turning". It is a reminder that even in rest the Lord watches over the world, and the day is dedicated to his Vamana avatar.
Keeping the Parsva Ekadashi vrat is believed to bring the merit of great sacrifices and to please Lord Vishnu greatly. Devotees fast, worship the Vamana form with tulsi and offerings, recite Vishnu’s names, and give charity. It is a quiet, devotional day in the heart of the holy Chaturmas season.
Parsva (Parivartini) Ekadashi 2026 is on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. Parana is on Thursday, 24 September 2026 after sunrise.
Parivartini means "the turning". On this Ekadashi, in the middle of Chaturmas, Lord Vishnu is said to turn onto his other side in his cosmic sleep.
