Vikram Samvat (VS) is the Hindu calendar era, founded by Emperor Vikramaditya around 57 BCE. It is the oldest and most widely used calendar system in India for religious and cultural purposes.
Hindu festivals, panchang, vrat dates, and muhurat — all are based on Vikram Samvat. India's national calendar (Shaka Samvat) is different, but religious calculations follow VS.
Simple formula: Gregorian Year + 57 = Vikram Samvat
Note: In Gujarat, the VS new year changes in October/November (Bestu Varas). So Jan 2026 to Oct 2026 = VS 2082, and Oct 2026 to Oct 2027 = VS 2083.
