Diwali is the festival of lights, celebrated on Kartik Amavasya. Homes are decorated with oil lamps and rangoli. Lakshmi Puja is performed in the evening for wealth and prosperity. In Gujarat, Diwali also marks the closing of business accounts (chopda pujan) and the beginning of the new business year.
