How We Calculate Panchang

Drik Ganita Method
We use observational (empirical) astronomy — the gold standard for Vedic astronomical calculation, used by all modern Panchang publishers. More accurate than older Surya Siddhanta method.
Lahiri Ayanamsa
We apply the Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa to convert tropical to sidereal positions. The official standard for Vedic astrology, consistent with India's National Calendar.
Location-based Calculation
Sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal, and Choghadiya are calculated for each city's exact latitude and longitude. A Panchang for Ahmedabad differs slightly from Surat — and we compute both correctly.
Amanta Tradition
We follow the Amanta calendar tradition (month ends on Amavasya), which is the Gujarati standard. North Indian Purnimanta tradition is different — we do not mix the two.

Calculations use the astronomia open-source astronomy library with our custom Gujarati calendar layer (Amanta tradition, Gujarati Samvat era). All algorithms follow standard published methods in Jean Meeus' Astronomical Algorithms.
